Juan Ramón de la Fuente resalta propuestas sobre Migración y control de armas

Juan Ramón de la Fuente, a recently appointed member of the presidential cabinet by President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum, will be part of the presidential cabinet for the 2024-2030 period and will be in charge of the Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores.

In an interview with Oscar Mario Beteta for El Heraldo Radio, the upcoming Mexican Foreign Minister highlighted his initial proposals on Migration and the Control of arms and drug trafficking.

Juan Ramón de la Fuente expressed that the distinction given to him by virtual President Claudia Sheinbaum as the new Foreign Minister is assumed with a great sense of responsibility, promising to rise to the challenges that come with it to ensure the well-being of all Mexicans.

“The point here is to serve Mexico, and what we have to do is be part of the government of the first female president of Mexico and North America, to rise to the occasion, take on the challenges with serenity, knowledge, intelligence, and always keeping the truth as the primary objective, the well-being of all, and development, and foreign relations can contribute to this, of course,” he stated.

The upcoming Foreign Minister of Mexico assured that he is prepared for what is to come, always bearing in mind that this appointment is a great responsibility.

“We are prepared, but at no point are we avoiding the serious responsibility that comes with the appointment and the trust it entails, here I am and with the pleasure of sharing my initial feelings and perceptions,” he added.

The new head of the Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores highlighted the mention made by virtual President Claudia Sheinbaum, emphasizing the importance of not losing sight of humanism.

Today, when Claudia Sheinbaum announced her first group of collaborators, she mentioned this aspect of humanism, because we must not lose sight that politics and diplomacy must have a purpose and a goal, and this must be in service of the people, putting their needs and well-being first,” he said.

Juan Ramón de la Fuente committed to always prioritize the well-being of Mexicans in the country and those abroad, wherever they may be. He emphasized that the millions of Mexicans living abroad, mainly in the United States, but also in other continents, are a major challenge that he will prioritize, hand in hand with the future President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, “together we will achieve the place that Mexico deserves.”

The upcoming Foreign Minister of Mexico discussed the relevance of Mexico’s role in the international context where “the specter of nuclear war has returned” and the Treaty of Tlatelolco is essential to prevent a global catastrophe.

“There are many episodes where Mexican diplomacy gives prestige to our country, such as the right to asylum, giving the possibility of a dignified life. This is one of the principles that must continue in Mexico (…) we must also maintain the legal equality of states (…) avoid wars (…) those are the principles and one must be guided by them to serve with loyalty and efficiency, that is the direction we are headed and that is what we have discussed with Dr. Sheinbaum,” he explained.

Regarding the issue of migration and the control of arms and drugs, the upcoming Foreign Minister of Mexico stated that these are complex issues that require cooperation with other countries to be more effective.

“We need cooperation, it is a topic that one country alone cannot solve, we need to review all existing collaboration to see how we can be more effective; we must collaborate with other countries on these sensitive issues; these are the challenges and we must rise to them,” concluded the new Foreign Minister of Mexico.
