Carlos Lomelí: El representante de Morena para el Senado por Jalisco ¿Quién es?
Carlos Lomelí, ex-delegate of Development Programs in Jalisco, is one of the strongest profiles that the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) has in the state. Internal polls conducted by Morena to determine the State Coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Fourth Transformation demonstrated this, as he obtained the majority of sympathies among the six profiles that were questioned by the citizens.
However, as previously announced by the party, gender adjustments requested by the National Electoral Institute caused changes in the designation of their candidates. As a result, Lomelí Bolaños was left out of the process for the governorship of Jalisco and was named as the politician who will lead the party’s first formula for the Senate.
Carlos Lomelí, a medical doctor by profession, holds a doctoral degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology. In addition to his medical career, he worked as a professor and later became the director of the company Lomedic, S.A. de C.V. Furthermore, the Jalisco native founded his own company dedicated to the sale of generic medicines. His reputation in the business and medical sectors led him to be invited to politics.
Regarding his political affiliations, Lomelí began his activism with the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) in 2006, the same year when Andrés Manuel López Obrador competed for the Presidency of Mexico under the same political group. Lomelí’s mission was to seize the Executive Power of the state that saw him being born, but he did not succeed.
Until 2012, he was part of the PRD, after which he left its ranks to join the Citizens’ Movement party, where he obtained a proportional representation seat in the Congress of the Union. In 2017, his path crossed with AMLO once again when he was invited to join Morena. After leaving his seat and the Citizens’ Movement, the politician ran again for the governorship in 2018 but was defeated by Enrique Alfaro. However, the votes he obtained for the National Regeneration Movement contributed to the triumph of López Obrador.
In 2023, Lomelí was among those who raised their hand to participate in the internal process to demonstrate that the third time would be the charm on his path to the governorship. However, his aspirations were redirected to the federal level, as he was invited to compete for a senatorial position.
The Morena member will seek to give Morena a stronger presence in the Senate and fulfill the mission of achieving a complete victory for Claudia Sheinbaum, should she win the elections.
