La Unidad de Inteligencia Financiera descarta investigar a Carlos Loret de Mola

Pablo Gómez Álvarez, head of the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), emphasized that there is no investigation against journalist Carlos Loret Mola since he does not appear as a shareholder of the company Latinus.

“It is not about persecution, much less against individuals who are considered sworn enemies of the government,” he stated at the morning press conference in front of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Gómez Álvarez stated that “Loret de Mola is not part of a complaint that the UIF has filed with the Attorney General’s Office for several years regarding corruption and money laundering offenses that, according to the UIF, a consortium called Latinus has been committing.”

He detailed that Latinus is made up of five companies that receive public funds for activities in the health sector – medicines and healthcare – and not for journalistic or advertising services.

“Conclusion, none of the administrative activities carried out by the Financial Intelligence Unit correspond to Mr. Carlos Loret de Mola. Mr. Carlos Loret de Mola does not appear as a shareholder, co-owner, executive, manager, or director of a business consortium called Latinus,” he emphasized. He mentioned that Loret de Mola, along with others, provides services and bills Latinus for them.

“But Latinus is a consortium in itself, and the people who work there as journalists or provide services there and elsewhere are not part of it. Now, the complaint filed by the UIF years ago against Latinus does not include any journalist, communication professional, or person dedicated to this activity,” he said.

UIF denies targeting Loret de Mola

The head of the UIF also responded to the journalist who stated that “it was a shame that I was pursuing him for his ideas and expressions when I come from the movement of ’68.”

The former legislator stated, “the generation that fought for freedoms in Mexico since the 60s has nothing to be ashamed of or explain to those who engage in slander. They turn it into a business. They turn it into a business. And this is the case, because the Latinus consortium is characterized by that with illegal public funds.”

Gómez Álvarez affirmed that those resources are not allocated in the budgets for social communication or advertising, “but for medicines, for medical care. Well, it is a challenge for the Public Prosecutor’s Office.” He emphasized that the UIF is fulfilling its duty.

In conclusion, the UIF’s statement clarifies that there is no investigation against Carlos Loret de Mola and that the focus remains on uncovering illegal activities related to the Latinus consortium.
