Detención de Eleazar ‘N’, ex alcalde de Pachuca por desvío de recursos: Un golpe a la corrupción

Eleazar “N”, the former mayor of Pachuca, has been detained by the High-Impact Unit of the Hidalgo State Attorney General’s Office (PGJEH) for the crime of embezzlement. It is alleged that he diverted more than 37 million pesos during his tenure as mayor from 2012 to 2016.

The Acting Head of the PGJEH, Francisco Hernandez Hasbun, reported that Eleazar “N” is being investigated for having signed agreements without the proper authorization from the City Council, resulting in a financial loss of more than 37 million pesos. As a result, he has been transferred to the Pachuca Social Reintegration Center (Cereso) to determine his legal situation.

It is worth noting that Eleazar “N” was apprehended on Chabacano Street in the Ampliación Santa Julia neighborhood. In the coming hours, his legal status will be determined to decide whether he will be prosecuted.

During his time as mayor, Eleazar “N” faced accusations of irregularities in the management of the municipality’s finances. Opposition councilors raised concerns about the remodeling of the Plaza Independencia square and various public works projects that were allegedly overpriced.

Furthermore, the Hidalgo State Auditor’s Office (ASEH) identified several discrepancies in the handling of the public funds during Eleazar “N”‘s administration. However, his successor, Yolanda Tellería Beltrán, who herself faced allegations of irregularities regarding a worker’s retirement benefits, chose not to pursue any criminal proceedings against him.

It is worth mentioning that Eleazar “N” had close ties with the former governor of Hidalgo, José Francisco Olvera Ruíz, who is currently running for a federal deputy position in the Pachuca district under the PRI party. After leaving his post as mayor, Eleazar “N” withdrew from public affairs and focused on his business endeavors.
